2019 BMW 3 Series Touring spied

New images show all-new wagon's interior, and it looks good!

The next-generation BMW 3 Series Touring has been spied again, this time giving us an early look and the new 3er's interior.

While still heavily camouflaged, we can see the new-gen 3 Series Touring will look very much like a shrunken version of the new 5 Series Touring – which is no bad thing.

A quick look at the interior images adds to the 'mini-me' design, though the next 3 Series will adopt several new cabin elements from the company's latest models – namely the all-new X5 and 8 Series.

The central screen will likely house the latest BMW OS7.0 infotainment software, which also extends to the fully-digital instrument cluster ahead of the driver.

Meanwhile, there's a new layout for the buttons and controls on the centre stack, and the wand-like gear selector has been given a makeover.

Compared to the current car, the new 3 Series is likely to take a big step upmarket in terms of material quality, in order to make it more competitive against the likes of the Audi A4 and Mercedes-Benz C-Class. It's also worth noting that the current-generation 3 Series first hit the market in 2011.

Earlier this week BMW confirmed the next-gen 3er will be lighter, more rigid, and feature a 10mm-lower centre of gravity than the model it replaces. Additionally, there's going to be a new "lift related" damping system as standard, and a retuned version of the optional M Sport suspension setup.

In terms of powertrains, we're expecting the 3 Series to continue offering a range of three-, four- and six-cylinder turbocharged petrol and diesel engines – including the "most powerful four-cylinder engine ever to be fitted in a BMW series production model" for the 330i.

An eight-speed automatic has been confirmed, though low-spec versions will likely offer a six-speed manual depending on market, and the company claims its revised engines will offer up to five per cent improvements in fuel efficiency.

The new 3 Series is believed to be scheduled for reveal sometime later this year, potentially at the Paris motor show in October. Stay tuned to CarAdvice for all the latest.
