HSV: Chevrolet Camaro hitting showrooms this month

The right-hook Camaro is almost here... but there's still a bit more waiting to do.

The factory-converted HSV Camaro is almost ready to roll, with production kicking off shortly ahead of a 'late August, early September' on-sale date.

Die-hard GM muscle car fans don't have long to wait for the locally converted right-hook Camaro, with HSV confirming cars should start popping up in dealers either late in August or early in September.

Previous reports had suggested the car would be here mid-year, but, as often happens, the date has been pushed back as final preparations are made. Given the Ford Mustang has been in Australia since 2015, and the Camaro has been on sale in the USA since 2016, a few weeks of extra waiting shouldn't be too much of a problem.

When it touches down, the Camaro will be offered in 2SS guise with power from a 6.2-litre V8 engine making 339kW and 617Nm of torque. At least, that's how much it makes in the USA – Australian outputs haven't been confirmed, although it'd be a surprise if our model made less than the 339kW Mustang GT V8. Oh, it's auto-only at launch.

Brembo brakes, a limited-slip differential, bi-modal exhaust, 20-inch wheels, Goodyear Eagle run-flat tyres and automatic headlights are all on the spec sheet, along with keyless entry/remote start, a nine-speaker Bose audio system, and a 7.0-inch MyLink touchscreen with CarPlay and Android Auto.

There's more, but you'll need to take a deep breath. Ready? Wireless phone charging, an eight-way power driver's seat, an 8.0-inch digital driver display, a sunroof, dual-zone climate control, heated/cooled seats, blind-spot monitoring and lane-departure warning. Phew.

Pricing for the Camaro hasn't been announced yet, but a dealer website has suggested a sticker somewhere in the realm of $90,000. Stay tuned for more in the lead-up to launch.
