2019 BMW M5 Competition pricing and specs

Powered-up super sedan here in October from $229,900

BMW Australia has detailed pricing and specifications for the new M5 Competition, set to start at $229,900 before on-road costs when it arrives in local showrooms in October.

As we already knew when it was revealed in May, the M5 Competition gets a more powerful version of the 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 that resides in the outgoing M5, now making 460kW of power (+19kW) at 6000rpm and 750Nm of torque (@1800-5800rpm).

With that extra grunt, the M5 Competition claims a 0-100km/h sprint time of just 3.3 seconds (down 0.1 seconds), with 0-200km/h achieved in 10.8 seconds (down 0.3 seconds).

Top speed is electronically limited to 250km/h out of the factory, though with the optional M Driver's Package, that figure increases to 305km/h.

For the first time, however, the local division has released more details of the new model's specification.

In addition to the aforementioned powertrain upgrades, the M5 Competition gets kit like a 1400W 16-speaker Bowers and Wilkins sounds system, M Carbon engine cover, soft-close doors for the front and rear, electrically-adjustable roller blind for the rear, and four-zone climate control over the M5 Launch Edition.

There's also the ambient air package, BMW Gesture Control, and model-specific 20-inch Y-spoke light alloy wheels with bi-colour finish.

In terms of options you can have two other wheel designs free of charge, and the same goes for metallic paint options. Specifying BMW Individual paint, however, adds between $2000 and $12,900 to the ticket.

An optional Indulgence Package asks for $6700 over the base price, and includes luxury features like a massaging seat function, TV tuner and a dual-screen rear entertainment system.

There's also items like M Carbon Ceramic brakes ($16,500), ventilated front seats ($1500), Apple CarPlay ($623) and the M Driver's Package ($2250) – the latter increasing the top speed limiter to 305km/h and reserving a place in the BMW Driving Experience Advance 2 course.

Scheduled to hit showrooms from October, the BMW M5 Competition is priced at $229,900 before ORCs.
