2019 Ford Focus ST spied

Less camouflage means we've got a better look at Ford's new hot-hatch.

The 2019 Ford Focus ST has been snapped testing on the Nurburgring, revealing its aggressive bodykit and diffuser in greater detail than before.

In keeping with the heavily-camouflaged vehicle we snapped in April, the ST looks like a regular Focus on steroids, with pumped-up air intakes up front and a subtle side skirt, along with 19-inch alloy wheels from the current-generation ST offered overseas. Eagle-eyed readers will also notice the Ford Performance numberplate surround, a dead giveaway to the fact this is, you know, a Ford Performance vehicle. Subtle.

Down back, the twin exhaust of the original car we snapped has carried over, suggesting the central-mounted units of the current are gone. Let us know if you'll miss them in the comments below.

Ford is expected to slot the 2.0-litre turbo four from the Escape into the ST, massaged to up its 178kW and 345Nm outputs to a Hyundai i30 N-rivalling 200kW and 375Nm, or figures in that ballpark. It's not going to be slow, regardless of what's under the bonnet.

There's also talk of a high-output EcoBlue diesel engine featuring, given the current ST is offered in both diesel and petrol guise overseas. Whether we'll see that version in Australia remains to be seen, but it's unlikely if history serves as a guide. It hasn't been snapped yet, but a wagon version of the ST is also likely to surface at some point.

The new Focus range arrives Down Under before the end of 2018, while the ST is likely to launch at the Paris motor show in October.
