People often say “don’t forget where you came from”. Although we’re focused on every new car, every last detail here at CarAdvice, we have an extensive back-catalogue of news stories, lifestyle yarns and reviews.

Here’s a look at what happened on the week of August 14 in years past.

15 August 2017: Honda CR-V range review

Always a paragon of practicality — as is the brand’s wont — the new CR-V instead brings improvements to the drivetrain, ride and handling, cabin design, and relative value. It also brings to the table a seven-seat option to rival the X-Trail, Mitsubishi Outlander and Skoda Kodiaq – Mike Costello

15 August 2016: MY17 Subaru BRZ revealed

Two years ago saw the Subaru BRZ get its mid-life refresh, brining revised looks, a power bump for manual versions, and an upgraded infotainment system.

It also debuted full-LED headlights for the brand in Australia, while sporting upgraded trims, cabin materials and switchgear.

Shortly after its reveal in August, the updated BRZ range landed Down Under in November of the same year.

14 August 2013: Mercedes-Benz GLA first official pictures

On this day five years ago, Mercedes-Benz revealed the first images of what would become one of its top sellers – the GLA crossover.

Based on the same platform of the then all-new A-Class hatchback, the GLA would be the brand's first proper rival to the likes of the Audi Q3 and BMW X1.

Following the publication of these first images, the GLA made its public debut at the Frankfurt motor show in September, before launching in Australia the following year.

15 August 2012: Hyundai Genesis Coupe sets new Pikes Peak record

Millen needed only 9:46.164 (breaking the 10-minute barrier) to reach the 4300-metre summit of Pikes Peak and claim not only a world record but also the overall event win.

The world record time was made in the very same Hyundai Genesis Coupe that set the record in the Time Attack two-wheel drive class in 2011 with Rhys’ father, Rod Millen, behind the wheel.

14 August 2009: Volkswagen agrees to purchase 42 per cent of Porsche

Nearly a decade ago German automotive giant Volkswagen announced it would buy a controlling stake in sports car marque, Porsche, after the latter failed to takeover the former earlier that same year.

Part of the plan was to forge a fully-integrated merger by the end of 2011, with Volkswagen's then CEO, Martin Winterkorn, to oversee both firms.

Volkswagen would then completely take over the Porsche brand in 2012, adding the German sports car brand to its portfolio which already included Bentley, Bugatti, and Lamborghini, in addition to Audi and Skoda.
