Lamborghini Aventador SVJ teased

Italian brand set to challenge Nurburgring record

Lamborghini looks set to challenge Porsche with an attempt to reclaim the fastest production car lap record around the Nurburgring.

The Italian sports car maker has teased its upcoming Aventador SVJ on social media with a short video of a prototype driven by test driver Marco Mapelli.

Little is revealed of the camoflagued machine in the short snippets, but it is clear that the hard-core version of the flagship V12-powered machine has been heavily modified and features the latest iteration of the company's ground-breaking active aerodynamics first introduced on the Huracan Performante, which held the fastest 'Ring record before it was eclipsed by the Porsche 911 GT2 RS last year.

In the video, it shows the Aventador SVJ wears an agressive new front splitter and a large fixed rear spoiler, as well as featuring lightweight alloys wrapped in sticky Pirelli Trofeo R tyres.

The aerodynamic add-ons are likely to work in a similar fashion to the Huracan's, which uses flaps in the front and rear wings to increase downforce while cornering and reduce drag in a straight line for extended top speeds.

It is almost enivitable that the Aventador's suspension has been sharpened even further too, and that the 6.5-litre naturally-aspirated V12 has been enhanced to generate more power than the 544kW/690Nm outputs in the Aventador S.

Official details of the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ are expected to be revealed soon, including its attempt to better the 911 GT2 RS' current 6min 47sec Nurburgring record.
