Holden Colorado Z71 Xtreme revealed

Australian-designed genuine accessories make for a tougher Colorado, priced from $69,990 drive-away.

Holden has whipped the covers off its answer to the Toyota HiLux Rugged and Rugged X, with the limited-edition Z71 Xtreme.

UPDATE, 09/08/2018: Holden has elaborated on the front suspension changes, and confirmed build numbers will be based on demand.

"The front suspension changes are new front springs on the Xtreme with a higher load and rate. They are fitted to compensate for the increased front mass with the extra accessories fitted."

Inspired by the Colorado Xtreme unveiled in Bangkok two years ago, the pumped-up dual-cab has been kitted out with accessories designed in Port Melbourne.

Up front, there's a new LED light bar and bash plate/bull bar combination, the latter of which is home to a 4535kg-capable winch with a 30m synthetic line.

The front suspension has been upgraded to deal with the extra weight over the nose, and there are fender flares all around for a tougher look. There are 18-inch Goodyear All-Terrain Wrangler tyres, too.

A roof tray, steel side steps, a steel step down back, and a bulging bonnet round out the physical changes, while there are plenty of stickers scattered around the exterior as well.

Power still comes from the same 2.8-litre diesel four-cylinder engine as the wider Colorado range, making 500Nm and 147kW, put to the road through a six-speed automatic transmission. Although you get a switchable four-wheel drive system with low-range, there's no mention of a locking rear differential.

"The top end of LCV market continues to develop, and we’re seeing a growing number of customers demanding greater off-road capability,” said Holden product marketing manager, Andre Scott.

"The Colorado Xtreme was a concept car that resonated with our customers, and to not only put it into production, but elevate it, is very exciting," he continued.

The Z71 Xtreme will be arriving in dealerships on October 1, priced from $69,990 drive-away – up on the $53,490 before on-roads of the standard Z71. We've contacted Holden to work out more specific details, but the company says "vehicles are exceptionally limited".
