2019 Audi S3 Sportback spied

Fourth-generation hatch looks as though it will gain an evolutionary redesign

The next-generation Audi A3 hatch has been spied undergoing testing for the first time, sporting a face in keeping with the fresh Q3.

Like the second-generation Q3, as well as the facelifted version of the current model, the new A3 will have an angular set of headlights with a teardrop element.

While the company's crossovers have adopted a new, more radical reinterpretation of single-frame grille, the version on the new A3 will be a gentle evolution.

At the rear, the tail-lights taper and thin as they enter the tailgate, which should give the car a slightly sportier look. Along the side, the new car retains the sharply creased shoulder line seen on today's car.

With its stylised side sills, and four exhaust tips, it seems as though our spy photography agency has captured the next-generation S3.

Under the skin, the new A3 should sit a version of the Volkswagen Group's ubiquitous MQB platform. As before it will likely share a lot in common with the next-generation Volkswagen Golf.

Motivation for the new A3 will should come from a selection of turbocharged petrol and diesel engines. A plug-in hybrid variant, and an all-electric model are distinct possibilities.
