BMW 740Le v Lexus LS500h 0-250km/h – video

The BMW 740Le and Lexus LS500h are two hybrid-powered luxury limousines which wouldn't necessarily be your first choice for a drag race.

In a new YouTube clip, however, AutoTopNL has compared the acceleration from the two upper-large land yachts from 0 to 250km/h – and the result may surprise you.

Powering the plug-in hybrid BMW is a 190kW/400Nm 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine paired with an 83kW/250Nm electric motor integrated into the eight-speed auto transmission, making for system outputs of 240kW and 500Nm. A 9.2kWh lithium-ion battery offers up to 48km of electric only range, and can be charged within four hours using a 240V mains power outlet.

Meanwhile, the Lexus uses a older style multi-stage hybrid system that pairs a 3.5-litre Atkinson-cycle V6 petrol engine with and two electric motor for a system power output of 264kW. Lexus and parent Toyota tend to not disclose combined torque figures in their hybrid models nor their electric-only range.

The 740Le and LS500h claim 0-100 times of 5.5 seconds and 5.4 seconds respectively. Anyway, we won't keep you any longer – find out which is quicker to 250km/h below:
