2020 Mercedes-AMG CLA45 spied

High-performance four-door 'coupe' spotted for the first time, and it looks like it's packing some punch.

The next-generation Mercedes-AMG CLA45 has been caught for the first time, a week-and-a-half after a regular CLA was spied doing laps of the Nurburgring.

Sitting low and squat on low-profile rubber, the CLA45 is easily distinguished from its more pedestrian siblings thanks to a small spoiler on the boot lip, massive quad exhaust tips, a prominent rear diffuser, and vertical vents on the rear bumper.

There's also a more aggressively styled front bumper, most of which lives behind a thick veil of camouflage and false body panels. Presumably due to the cooling needs of the engine, there's a mesh grille giving us a glimpse of the lower air intake o the passenger's side of the car.

Under the bonnet, the CLA45 is expected to feature a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine delivering around 300kW of power. With so much fury on tap, all-wheel drive is once again expected to be standard.

On the inside, the CLA45 seems likely to feature digital instrumentation as standard, the company's new MBUX infotainment system, and seats designed to bear hug you as the car hurtles from corner to corner.
