Opel Insignia gains 147kW turbo petrol option, not for Oz
Astra-sourced powertrain on sale in Europe now, but it's not coming to Oz.
Opel has expanded the powertrain line-up for its mid-sized Insignia line-up, adding the 147kW 1.6-litre turbo petrol engine from the smaller Astra.
Available on all three body styles – Grand Sport (liftback), Sports Tourer (wagon) and Country Tourer (crossover wagon) – the new petrol option is available with either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic, exclusively sending drive to the front wheels.
Opel claims the Insignia can sprint from 0-100 in 7.7 seconds with this engine, on its way to a top speed of 235km/h.
The 1.6-litre unit is also fitted with a gasoline particulate filter for reduced emissions, and is also compliant with Euro 6d-TEMP emissions regulations – which comes into force for all new registrations in Europe from September 2019.
Pricing for the new 1.6-litre Insignia starts at €35,195 ($55,051) for the Grand Sport with six-speed manual.
Australia
Speaking with CarAdvice, Holden's director for communications, Anna Betts, said: "Holden will be continuing with our current powertrain line-up for the ZB Commodore".
In Australia, the Euro-sourced Commodore is offered with 191kW/350Nm 2.0-litre turbo and a 235kW/381Nm 3.6-litre V6 petrol options, along with a 125kW/400Nm 2.0-litre turbo-diesel.
