BMW 8 Series Convertible, Gran Coupe confirmed for 2019

Harald Krüger, chairman for the board of management at BMW AG, has confirmed the 8 Series Convertible and four-door 8 Series Gran Coupe will launch next year, in addition to a production version of the upcoming iNext concept.

During a conference call, as reported by Carscoops, the company's boss said the drop-top and four-door versions of its flagship sports luxury car will launch next year, "as well as corresponding M models", indicating the M8 will come in two-door, four-door and convertible bodies.

"We have another ace up our sleeve: A systematic expansion of our luxury segment," he said.

"Within the new 8 Series model range, production of the new BMW 8 Series Coupé is already underway. The market launch is scheduled for November."

"This will be followed in 2019 by the Convertible and Gran Coupé," Krüger added.

It also means the current and ageing 6 Series will have all its variants succeeded by the new 8 Series range.

Krüger also mentioned the production version of the company's iNext concept – teased in May and scheduled for reveal in Paris later this year – will be revealed in production spec during 2019.

When the vehicle was first teased earlier this year, BMW confirmed the iNext is "fully electric, fully connected and also offers highly automated driving", and will enter production at the company's Dingolfing facility in 2021.

"As you can see: We are driving full speed ahead – in the major regions of the world, with innovative technologies and with new products," Krüger said.

"We continue to follow our clear strategic roadmap and remain highly flexible."
