Ram recalls 1.45 million trucks globally over tailgate fault

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) has been forced to issue a global recall for more than 1.1 million Ram trucks in the US, along with a further 260,000 in Canada, nearly 20,000 in Mexico, and a further 25,000 in markets outside North America.

According to the manufacturer, affected models are fitted with faulty power-locking mechanisms that could break over time.

If the condition occurs, the tailgate could open while the vehicle is in motion – and if there's cargo in the tray it could fall out and cause a hazard for other road users.

The Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 model lines are all affected, though no accidents or injuries have been reported as a result of the issue.

Speaking with CarAdvice, Edward Rowe, media and PR consultant for Ram's local distributor, Ateco Automotive, confirmed there are 738 units affected in Australia as part of the global recall.
