2019 Lynk & Co 03 revealed

New sedan becomes Chinese brand's third model, complete with Volvo 40 Series running gear.

The Lynk & Co 03 sedan has been revealed ahead of its official debut a the Chengdu motor show in September, becoming the company's third model line and its first non-SUV.

In terms of design, there are few surprises given the various teasers have been released over the past month, along with the fact it's largely unchanged from the 03 concept revealed at last year's Shanghai motor show.

Up front is the familiar Lynk & Co corporate face, as seen already on the 01 and 02 crossovers, complete with a two-tier headlight design and 'dual claw' high-mounted LED daytime-running lights.

This particular model appears to be a more sporting variant, given the chunky front and rear bumpers, side skirts, and large alloy wheels. It's believed a more understated model will also be made available in due course.

Out back, the L-shaped tail-light design clearly resembles the units seen on the brand's crossover models, while the diffuser and incorporated dual exhaust tips give the 03 a rather aggressive and muscular stance.

No images of the interior have been released yet, but we're expecting the 03 to offer the same large central touchscreen and digital driver's display as the 01 and 02, featuring internet connectivity and voice-activated virtual assistant functions.

Under the skin, the 03 uses the same Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) as the Volvo XC40, co-developed with Chinese parent Geely.

In terms of powertrains, the UK's Autocar claims the 03 will utilise the same set of three- and four-cylinder petrol engines offered in the XC40, meaning 1.5-litre turbo and 2.0-litre turbo units should be offered, with a plug-in hybrid version to join the range later on.

Further details regarding the 03 and its global rollout are still to be announced, though the company has been very clear in its plans to expand outside of China from 2019.

Australia has been mentioned as a starter at some point, though exact timing is still to be confirmed. In the meantime, let us know what you think of the Lynk & Co 03 in the comments below.
