The 1000hp BMW M3 with the heart of Godzilla

BMW purists, look away now!

Jake Jones, better known as the "Drift Squid", is a 28-year-old drifter from the Barossa Valley in South Australia. Jake has won many awards for his skills and, to him, it is simply a way of life.

We caught up with Jake at the South Australian Time Attack and heard what he had to say, not only about himself, but also his RBM3.

So how did this all begin? Well, Jake found an E92 M3 BMW that had met its end in a write-off-worthy accident.

Determined to bring it back from the dead and create his ultimate drift car, Jake resurrected the BMW and set to work on building the monster it is today, and you can't have a monster without Godzilla.

Jake took the BMW to some friends down at Power Tune Australia – they're known for building some pretty crazy track and street cars. Power Tune loved the idea, calling it "outrageous", and got stuck into it as soon as the shell arrived at the shop.

The car truly blends beauty and the beast. From its monstrous engine to its beautifully restored body lines and chassis, Jake has spared no expense or effort on bringing out the fury this car has to offer.

He says the rails were quite kinked when he found the shell, so most have been reinforced or completely rebuilt.

The engine is an RB26 from a Nissan GT-R or "Godzilla". Running a Tomei stroker kit, 28 pound of boost and 1000cc injectors, it's amazing how well the car sticks to the ground. This is all thanks for the quality of the build and Jake's skill as a driver.

The interior, or what's left of it, is extremely functional and purpose-built for a drifting application.

The eye-catcher is surely the HGT Sequential gearbox, backed up by a Direct Clutch Twin Plate that can handle over 1000 horsepower.

The dash is lit up by a MOTEC C127, which Jake says, after using one, he would never go back. The rest of the interior is taken up by a Helps Metalworks full roll cage and some very stylish yet safe Velo Full Head Wrap race seats.

The rear setup of this car does not disrupt the rest of the RBM3's insanity and in fact only adds to it. Sporting a rear-mounted radiator and a custom rear screen to act as a wind tunnel, the car not only looks awesome but is truly designed to perform at its best and coolest.

The radiator is not the only piece of the running gear that is rear-mounted, of course. The boot also sports the dry sump tank, electric water pump and three fuel pumps to feed the hungry RB.

There is also a Winters Quick Change Differential. This sits within the custom subframe that comes all the way from HGK in Latvia. Jake boasts his love for it and how easy it is to change gear ratios for certain events and conditions!

Last but not least, the exhaust, and by looking at it you can almost feel the rumble. This is a custom setup connected to a Helps Metalworks Steam Pipe Exhaust Manifold. It sounds absolutely amazing.

Finally we come to the handling and stopping power.

The RBM3 is equipped with MCA Red Series Coilover Suspension, which is fast becoming the most popular brand among Motorsport enthusiasts in Australia.

Being the first M3 with MCA suspension, it was a custom setup dialled in by Josh Coote himself from MCA.

It is filled with Wisefab goodies all round, including LCAs and Hubs. Its immense stopping power is credited to the M3 brakes and double rear M3 Calipers.

Not to mention, the RBM3 looks killer rolling on some ADVAN RS in the front and WORK EQUIPS in the rear.

Still to this day I think it's my personal favourite and craziest drift car I have ever seen. Jake is a very skilled driver and an all-round great guy. It's always fun to catch up, have a laugh and just admire this beast.
