Mercedes has announced details for its new two-door flagship range, which still features V12 power.
Mercedes-Benz Australia has revealed pricing and specification details for the 2019 S-Class Coupe and Cabriolet line-up, including hi-performance Mercedes-AMG versions.
As you'd expect from a vehicle with such a hefty price tag, all versions come with a rather comprehensive level of standard equipment – so we'll just give you some of the highlights.
Above & Top: Mercedes-Benz S560 Coupe
The S560 ($314,900 Coupe, $336,900 Cabriolet) comes with the Air Balance package, ambient interior lighting (64 colours), Comand Online infotainment with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, DAB+ digital radio, designo nappa leather upholstery, velour floor mats, Dinamica microfibre headliner, a head-up display, wireless smartphone charger, 20-inch alloys, AMG body styling, and full-LED headlights with adaptive high-beam.
Other specification highlights from the 'base' car include a 360-degree camera system, a 13-speaker Burmester surround sound system, blind-spot assist, autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-change assist, active steering assist, and an automated parking assistant.
The coupe uniquely gets the company's Magic Body Control adaptive suspension system with curve inclination function, an electric blind for the rear window, and a glass panoramic roof.
Meanwhile, the convertible gets Airscarf neck-level heaters, heated front armrests and centre console, and an electronic wind deflector.
Power in the S560 comes from a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 developing a healthy 345kW of power and 700Nm of torque, sent to the rear wheels via a nine-speed automatic transmission. Fuel consumption for the S560 Coupe is rated at 8.5L/100km on the combined cycle, while the S560 Cabriolet claims 9.9L/100km.
Above, Below & Bottom: Mercedes-AMG S63 Coupe
Next is the AMG S63 ($370,500 Coupe, $399,900 Cabriolet) which picks up larger 20-inch AMG alloys, a high-performance composite braking system with 390mm front and 360mm rear discs, an AMG sports exhaust system, red brake calipers, sports air suspension, brushed stainless steel door sills, an AMG Performance steering wheel trimmed in nappa leather, and tyre pressure monitoring.
There's also the AMG Driver's Package fitted as standard, raising the electronically-limited top speed to 300km/h – not that you'll ever use that in Australia.
Headlining the S63's spec sheet, though, is the engine. Under the bonnet is an uprated 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 putting out a more substantial 450kW of power and 900Nm of torque.
Drive continues to be sent to the rear wheels, though in the case of the S63 it's via an AMG nine-speed multi-clutch automatic. Fuel consumption is rated at 9.0L/100km and 9.9L/100km for the Coupe and Cabriolet respectively.
Finally, the AMG S65 sits atop the line-up for both the Coupe ($508,900) and Cabriolet ($520,500) families.
In terms of equipment, the top-spec S-Class Coupe and Cabriolet get a beefed-up Burmester 3D sound system, an integrated garage door opener, heated rear seats (Coupe), nappa headliner, Night View Assist Plus, Swarovski crystal inserts for the front centre console, model-specific 20-inch alloys, intelligent LED headlights with Swarovski crystals, an AMG version of the Magic Body Control system (Coupe), and a panoramic roof with Magic Sky Control (Coupe).
Power in the S65 twins comes from the tried and tested 6.0-litre twin-turbo V12 claiming outputs of 463kW and 1000Nm, sent to the rears wheels via a seven-speed AMG-tuned automatic. Fuel consumption is rated at 12.0L/100km for both versions – not that it really matters, right?
As you'd expect from a high-end vehicle, all versions of the S-Class Coupe and Cabriolet are offered with an array of single-item options and packages – some are no-cost extras, while others ask for up to $17,500 over the base price.
