Infiniti QX50: Interior detailed, Oz launch delayed

Luxury arm details what inspired the new SUV's cabin finishes – sandy beaches and crystal blue waters anyone?

The Infiniti QX50 is still a while off for Australia – it's been delayed until mid-2019 at this stage – but the company has given some insight into how it came up with its cabin design.

According to Nissan's luxury arm, designers were inspired by the "look and feel of luxury resort hotels", right down to the warmer colour tones, wood-inspired chocolate brown accents, and off-white surfaces designed to evoke sandy beaches.

Meanwhile, the navy blue trim accents adorning the centre console draw from ocean water, all building to what Infiniti calls a "comfortable, yet invigorating environment".

"The quest to find the perfect fit of materials, colours, forms and ergonomics have driven our designers and engineers to create the best interior Infiniti has ever produced," said Karim Habib, executive design director for Infiniti.

"The unrivalled interior space, carefully curated application of colours, high quality materials and advanced craftsmanship make the cabin as welcoming and comfortable as it is luxurious."

"The QX50's asymmetrical layout and calm, controlled atmosphere is designed to meet different needs of the driver and passengers," he added.

Further to the aforementioned design elements, Infiniti has accented the QX50's cabin with genuine, matte-finished open-pore maple wood inserts.

The company says that the QX50 embodies "everything Infiniti stands for: beautiful design, enhanced technology and empowering performance".

Australia

Despite being revealed last November at the Los Angeles motor show, Australians are going to have to wait a bit for the QX50 to hit local showrooms.

Guy Street, managing director for Infiniti Australia, recently confirmed with CarAdvice that the QX50's launch Down Under has been delayed until mid-2019, after previously being slated for a late-2018 arrival.

"We're just working through timings at the moment, we don't have exact timings, but it'll be... mid next year," he said.
