Lexus LFA ‘art car’ revealed for Spa

It's only been, er, eight short years since the LFA first launched, and Lexus is finally getting around to making it an artwork.

BMW has seen huge success with its 'art cars' over the years, having let legends like Andy Warhol, Frank Stella and Ken Done loose with the crayons on its some of its most famous racers. Now, Lexus wants a slice of the action.

It hasn't chosen one of its new RC F GT3 racers, or even the stunning LC500, for the canvas though. Instead, it's handed an LFA over to Portuguese artist Pedro Henriques, who's kitted it out with a black-and-white livery to celebrate 10 years since the launch of the 'F' brand.

“My inspiration was the idea of fluidity that’s present in contemporary life, where things are in constant movement and it is hard to freeze anything," Henriques said of the car.

“The lines follow this sense of going everywhere and never stopping: a progressive life. I wanted to reach an organic feeling by using hand-made material and liquid lines in the elements spread throughout the car. By doing this I hope to express a feeling of the car becoming a less defined shape, in constant mutation in its movement.”

We'd argue the greatest artwork in the LFA is still its V10 engine. With 412kW of power and 480Nm on tap, it'll hit 100km/h in 3.7 seconds and revs to a stratospheric 9000rpm. Anyone lucky enough to see Tony and Alborz's video comparing the LFA and LC500 will know it sounds incredible.

The LFA you see here will be on show at the 24 Hours of Spa, which kicks off this weekend.
