Honda Civic diesel gets nine-speed auto in the UK
But don't expect to see it in Australia anytime soon, it's not coming here.
Honda UK has released details of the revised Civic i-DTEC diesel, which is now available with a new nine-speed automatic transmission.
All grades of the Civic diesel in the UK will be offered with the new self-shifter as an option, which has a low first-gear ratio for a "smooth and powerful launch", while the high top-gear ratio "ensures low engine speed while cruising" for improved fuel consumption and refinement.
Honda says the nine-speeder is also capable of 'skipping' gears for quicker response, for example changing from ninth to fifth, or from seventh to fourth.
The new transmission is available with the 1.6-litre i-DTEC turbo-diesel offered in overseas markets like the UK and Europe, developing 88kW of power at 4000rpm, and 300Nm of torque at 2000rpm.
When equipped with the automatic gearbox, the Civic diesel can accelerate from 0-100 in 11.0 seconds, and hit a top speed of 200km/h.
Fuel economy, meanwhile, is rated at 4.1L/100km (68.9mpg) on the combined NEDC cycle, and the emissions rating is listed at 108g/km for the sedan and 109g/km for the hatchback.
The Civic hatchback is assembled at the company's Swindon facility in the UK, while the Euro-market sedan is built in Turkey.

Speaking with CarAdvice, Honda's local assistant manager for public relations, Naomi Rebeschini, said there are no plans to offer the Civic diesel locally.
The last time Honda offered a diesel Civic was in the form of the previous-generation DTi-S hatchback, which launched in April 2013 and was available solely with a manual transmission.
In its four years on sale Down Under, the Civic DTi-S only shifted 419 units, which is probably one major reason Honda Australia has elected to do without a diesel variant this time around.
