2020 Lexus LC F spied for the first time

Hotted-up coupe looks likely to launch in 2020, with power from a pumped-up V8.

The rumours were true! It looks like Lexus is getting a hotter version of the LC500 ready for launch, and it's been snapped testing on the public road in Germany. Meet the LC F.

The first hint this isn't your average LC500 is the front end, where the regular nose has been tricked out with bigger air intakes and a more aggressive splitter, along with vents on the front edge of the wheel arch.

That signature grille hasn't changed, nor has the bonnet – don't hold out hope for a gigantic scoop of some kind, that's not really in keeping with the Lexus ethos.

Moving to the back, you'll notice quad exhaust pipes stacked in the same diagonal pattern we've seen on previous Lexus F models. They're sitting in what appears to be a mount for a bigger rear diffuser, although this pre-production car doesn't actually have the diffuser fitted.

Although unconfirmed at this stage, we're expecting lashings of carbon-fibre to help save weight, and an uprated powertrain in keeping with the 'F' badge. There's talk of a more powerful version of the LC500's naturally-aspirated V8, but industry scuttlebutt has also suggested a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 could also feature... Stay tuned for more on that.

A track-ready suspension, bigger brakes and stickier rubber are all likely, once again in keeping with the F brand's performance focus. We'll have to wait a bit longer for more details, but the wheels on this tester look similar to those on the LFA. Good pedigree.

The LC F isn't expected to surface in full before 2020, around the same time as an LC Convertible.
