Take a trip through the CarAdvice archives...

People often say “don’t forget where you came from”. Although we’re focused on every new car, every last detail here at CarAdvice, we have an extensive back-catalogue of news stories, lifestyle yarns and reviews.

Here’s a look at what happened on the week of July 24 in years past.

24 July 2017: Mercedes-Benz E-Class All-Terrain 4x4^2 revealed

A year ago Jurgen Eberle, one of the Mercedes-Benz vehicle development engineers, decided to make a series of modifications to his E-Class All-Terrain, in a fashion similar to the existing G500 4x4² off-roader.

26 July 2016: Driver training in the 2016 Volkswagen Golf GTI

It's now been two years since a fresh-faced James Wong (me) undertook the Level One defensive driving course with Driver Dynamics with some other members of the CarAdvice team.

On this day in 2015, CarAdvice was granted an exclusive interview with Amanda McLaren, brand ambassador and daughter of company founder Bruce McLaren.

23 July 2014: Audi RS5 TDI concept revealed

Before the stonking SQ7 SUV, Audi previewed its electric turbocharging technology with the RS5 TDI concept.

With 283kW of power and 750Nm of torque from its electrically-assisted 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 diesel, the RS5 TDI could sprint from 0-100 in just 4.0 seconds – half a second quicker than its V8 petrol-powered production counterpart.

It never made it to production, but similar technology has since been used for the SQ7, which uses electric compressor technology in its 4.0-litre twin-turbo diesel V8.

24 July 2013: BMW i3 leaked in production form ahead of global debut

Previewed by the i3 concept shown at the 2011 Frankfurt motor show, we saw the BMW i3 (that's still on sale) on this day five years ago.

A handful of images leaked on the internet a week ahead of the international reveal, though the production car didn't offer too many surprises in terms of design regardless.
