2019 Mercedes-Benz CLA spied
Mercedes' all-new four-door coupe has been spotted at the Nurburgring.
The next-generation Mercedes-Benz CLA has been snapped by spy photographers during performance testing at the famed Nurburgring circuit in Germany.
While there's a full-body wrap concealing the new model's design details, we can see that the new CLA will essentially be a 'mini-me' version of the new CLS, as is pretty much the case with the current one.
Up front is Mercedes-Benz's 'predator' face, which the company says it is using on 'progressive' models – like the all-new A-Class and CLS.
The sloping roofline, meanwhile, extends into a shrunken version of the CLS"s rump, which previews the new design language for Mercedes-Benz's upcoming coupe models.
We are yet to see any images of the interior, but we're fairly confident the CLA will have a cabin layout virtually identical to that of the A-Class, meaning the new Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) infotainment system will feature.
In terms of powertrains, expect a range of four-cylinder turbocharged petrol and diesel engines to be offered in the core range, with higher-spec versions gaining the option of 4Matic all-wheel drive.
Also expect the new CLA range to include two AMG variants, in the form of the mid-tier AMG CLA35 and the top-spec AMG CLA45. Plug-in hybrid power should be offered at some point, too.
The next-gen CLA will form part of the upcoming model family based on the new A-Class platform, which will include a global version of the A-Class L sedan revealed for China earlier this year, a new version of the GLA crossover, an all-new B-Class, and a more practical SUV dubbed 'GLB'.
Earlier this year Mercedes-Benz confirmed at least eight model variants would be created off the A-Class's architecture, so there may even be a new CLA Shooting Brake in the pipeline as well, though only time will tell.
