2019 Toyota 86 TRD Special Edition revealed for the US
North American division releases limited-run variant alongside updated range.
Toyota USA has detailed the 2019 86 line-up, headlined by a new TRD Special Edition that brings a unique look and model-specific upgrades to the company's little sports car.
Dubbed the "ultimate performance" 86, the TRD Special Edition gets numerous cosmetic and mechanical upgrades, including Brembo brakes, a TRD exhaust system, Sachs dampers, and Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres.
There's also extras like a full TRD bodykit, a TRD tri-colour graphic, and unique interior appointments like sports bucket seats, red upholstery accents, a suede-like instrument panel finish, and red seatbelts.
Production of the 86 TRD Special Edition will be capped at 1418 units in the US, with pricing to kick off at US$32,420 ($43,937).
Power still comes from a naturally aspirated 2.0-litre four-cylinder boxer engine making 152kW and 212Nm, put to the rear wheels through a limited-slip differential. It appears the calls for a more powerful 86 have fallen on deaf ears once again...
The wider 2019 Toyota 86 range goes on sale in August in the US, with upgrades to non-TRD models including a new exterior colour (Neptune) and interior colour (red/black).
Australia
Toyota's local division has confirmed there are no plans to introduce the 86 TRD Special Edition here, though the current 'Performance Pack' option does offer similar upgrades like Sachs suspension, Brembo brakes, and unique 17-inch alloy wheels.
