Aston Martin DB5 gets Lego-fied

The 1964 Aston Martin DB5 from Goldfinger will forever be one of the most famous movie cars in history. Now, Lego has created a toy version so you can park one in your lounge room.

While the 1:1 vehicle from the film sold for $4.2 million in 2010, the Lego kit retails for US$149.99 ($201.94) – a bargain by comparison.

It may not have the timeless lines of the real thing, the Lego DB5 is loaded with working gadgets that'll help you and your kids against the forces of evil.

Up front the indicators fold out to reveal machine gun barrels, which disappear again at the pull of the interior shift lever. There's also a tracking computer and door-mounted phone inside, just like the original.

If you pull the rear bumper, the ejector seat shoots out through the roof, while all four wheels can have tyre cutters fitted. Meanwhile, the licence plates swivel to reveal a different registration number.

Rounding out the Lego DB5's arsenal is a retractable bulletproof shield for the rear window, perfect for protecting 007 from trailing enemies.

Under the front-hinged bonnet is a Lego replica version of the DB5's double-overhead camshaft straight six, which even has triple carburettors like the real thing.

Other moving bits and bobs include the doors and boot – the latter offering enough space for a small Lego suitcase... or a body.

The Lego Aston Martin DB5 goes on sale August 1.
