The Porsche Taycan hasn't even been revealed in its final form yet, but orders are already coming in thick and fast.
"The reaction from customers has been fantastic - from the moment we announced the car to now, when we have asked customers to register their interest for the first cars," he told the British publication.
"The history of Porsche began with an electric car in 1898 and that provides some inspiration and motivation for us. Of course there was a big gap, but we have led with the introduction of hybrids and now we will use our heritage and learnings to offer a class-leading electric car."
"The next 18 months will be fascinating, as we develop and reveal the car, but what is already clear is that customers are keen. They are talking to our dealers asking how to get to the top of the priority lists and asking to access more information," Pollich added.
Set to take on the likes of the Tesla Model S when it debuts in production form next year, the Taycan will be the first all-electric Porsche, joining the plug-in hybrid versions of its current models in its electrified line-up.
Final specifications will be confirmed at the Taycan's reveal, but Porsche claims the EV will have a system output of 'more than 450kW' from its two electric motors, and will be capable of sprinting from 0-100 in 'under 3.5 seconds'.
Meanwhile, the marque says the new electric sports car will have a zero-emissions driving range of 'over 500km' on the NEDC test – that figure is likely to change under new WLTP regulations.
Speaking with CarAdvice, Chris Jordan, Porsche's local public relations boss, said: "Interest in Taycan is very strong in Australia".
"Many people have already signed up to the official Taycan Expression Of Interest program via their local Porsche Centre. In Australia we do not take formal orders until closer to the on-sale date – Taycan will arrive in Australia in 2020."
