Ford GT order books to reopen in Q4 – report

New report claims Blue Oval is expanding production run.

Those who missed out on the opportunity to buy a second-generation Ford GT could be in luck, according to a new report out of the US.

Motor Authority says it "has learned" the Blue Oval will reopen applications to purchase its supercar in the fourth quarter of 2018, hinting at an expanded production run and a possible new special edition.

According to the report, those who applied last time around can do so again and update their previous applications, while new applicants can start fresh.

The first batch of Ford GTs reportedly got 6000 applications, though only 500 were approved. A further 250 were approved after the company expanded its production run for another two years.

Given the 2017 and 2018 model years saw two different Heritage Editions (MY18 above) released to commemorate the original GT40's Le Mans success, Motor Authority believes the 2019 model-year GT will also offer a race-inspired Heritage Edition – though this hasn't been officially confirmed.

The publication believes we could see the eye-catching blue and orange Gulf livery revived, paying tribute to the No.9 GT40 driven to victory by Pedro Rodriguez and Lucien Bianchi in 1968.

Pricing for the Ford GT is said to start at around US$450,000 ($609,990) in the States, with power coming from a 3.5-litre twin-turbo 'Ecoboost' V6 making an estimated 470kW and 731Nm – those figures are according to the Forza Motorsport 6 video game, Ford has never officially announced the engine's outputs.
