Pininfarina teases electric PF0 hypercar

Some fresh information about what's shaping up to be a seriously quick, seriously pretty hypercar.

Beyond the fact it can do 400km/h, details about the Pininfarina PF0 were hard to come by when it was initially teased. Now, in a pair of American interviews, the company has revealed some extra performance figures that should make the upcoming Tesla Roadster very, very nervous.

Speaking with Wired and The VergePininfarina has confirmed the PF0 will hit 60mph (97km/h) in less than two seconds, hit 250mph (402km/h) and cover 310 miles (500km) on a single charge.

We can expect to see lightning-quick charge times, with the promise of an 80 per cent range bump in just 15 minutes when hooked up to the right high-capacity charger, in a similar vein to the upcoming Porsche Mission E – excuse us, Porsche Taycan.

The battery will be stored in a transmission-tunnel style housing through the middle of the car, with Pininfarina eschewing the skateboard design favoured by the likes of Tesla and Volkswagen. We'd wager some sort of dual-motor setup will be required, given the kind of power required to hit 400km/h.

Details about the interior are hard to come by but, based on The Verge's report, it'll likely rely on a tie-up with an actual technology company for infotainment.

"We will not have large department. We’d rather talk to others like Apple, Google, and Salesforce who are into technology, and integrate them rather than do our own systems," Michael Perschke, Automobili Pininfarina CEO, told the American tech publication.

"OEMs are still defending infotainment architecture. I’m happy to full integrate an iPhone. But do you need to sell infotainment system at a surplus of another $5000?"

Pricing for the PF0 will be revealed with the car at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, but reports have suggested it'll be worth between US$2.0 and 2.5 million ($2.6 and $3.4 million) at launch. Not cheap, but the car does promise to be unique.
