Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus SCG006 ‘work in progress’ revealed

The delightfully retro drop-top is reportedly road-legal in 49 US states, with a handful to be built... at a price, naturally.

Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus has revealed a 'work in progress' render of its upcoming SCG006, a retro-styled sports car with all the trappings you'd expect of a modern supercar.

On the outside, the 006 is obviously influenced by legends from the 1960s like the Ferrari 275GTB, Jaguar E-Type and Shelby Daytona. We're expecting to hear more from James Glickenhaus, company founder, in the lead up to the car's launch, so hopefully he'll lift the lid on what drove the design. The body itself is carbon-fibre, so it's not just pretty – it should be light as well.

Power will come from a Chevrolet 'LT4' supercharged V8 engine making 485kW, putting power to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission with a transaxle. Those averse to shifting their own will also be offered a paddle shift option, but we're firmly in favour of three pedals in this case.

Although it's pictured here with a side-exit exhaust, SCG has promised to build the car with a regular rear-exit exhaust if buyers prefer. There's also talk of a coupe version, which shapes as particularly pretty.

According to a post on its Facebook page, Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus will build a handful of cars under its NHTSA Approved Low Volume status, with a proper VIN number and approval to drive on the road in 49 states. The holdout is California, presumably because of its strict CARB emissions regulations.

The car's classic good looks and powerful engine won't come cheap. SCG is planning an MSRP of around US$250,000 (around $337,000) for the car, and asking for a 10 per cent deposit. Sounds steep, but the company says the first few build slots for its 004 sold out within weeks of it appearing on Facebook, suggesting keen buyers best get in quickly.
