2019 Mercedes-Benz A200 priced from $47,200
We're still waiting on pricing for the wider range, but this is a start... right?
Mercedes-Benz Australia has revealed the first pricing information for the new A-Class range, set to touch down in dealers on August 10.
The mid-spec A200 will be priced from $47,200 before on-road costs, making it $2900 more expensive than the car it replaces. That price jump will bring a host of new tech, though.
All Australian-delivered A-Class models will get a dual-screen setup reminiscent of that in the S-Class, along with the first implementation of Mercedes' new MBUX infotainment system. The system is designed to be more intuitive, with a 'Hey Mercedes' voice control reminiscent of in-home smart speakers from the likes of Google.
The A200 will get LED headlights with adaptive high beam, keyless entry and start, wireless phone charging and 18-inch alloy wheels. Autonomous emergency braking, parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring and a rear-view camera will also be standard fit.
A 225W audio system with nine speakers, nine airbags and a larger 51L fuel tank will be included across the Aussie A-Class range, while a comfort-first Progressive suspension tune will be offered from factory – given Australian tastes, we'd be surprised if most owners don't tick the AMG Line box for a 15mm lower ride height.
Power in the A200 comes from a 1.33-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine making 120kW and 250Nm. Weird that Mercedes-Benz wasn't keen on the A133 badge, huh? Along with the A200, the full range will include an A180 with a detuned version of the same 1.33-litre engine, and an A250 4Matic with a 165kW/350Nm 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol.
We're still waiting on details about the full-fat AMG A45, along with the AMG A35 expected to sit below it in the range. Given it'll need to justify a price premium over the A35, along with the extra 10 'AMGs' in its name, we're expecting the range-topping A45 to be pretty wild. The current car is no shrinking violet, either.
Stay tuned for full pricing and specs for the A-Class when they're revealed.
