2019 Mini Electric teased

Design sketch duo preview model-specific details of upcoming electric hatchback.

Mini has released a pair of sketches showing components that will feature on the upcoming all-electric version of the Hatch, scheduled for launch in 2019.

The first image (above) shows the new model's front grille, while the second (below) shows the futuristic alloy wheel design – both largely unchanged from the Mini Electric concept (bottom) shown last year.

Up front the Mini EV will feature a 'closed' grille, accented with yellow highlights and the company's 'E' badge, which more resembles a power plug rather than the letter 'E'.

Meanwhile, the wheel design features an asymmetric motif, and incorporates the same yellow accent around the rim and also the outline of the Mini centre cap.

"Mini is an urban brand and the fully-electric Mini the logical next step into the future,” says Oliver Heilmer, head of Mini Design.

"These initial sketches for the fully electrified Mini outline our vision of authentic design creating a bridge between the history of the brand and its electric future."

Mini has confirmed its first volume-produced all-electric model will be launched sometime in 2019, 60 years after the original went on sale.

It will be based on the 3 Door Hatch, and produced at the company's Plant Oxford facility. Parent company BMW also signed an agreement with Great Wall Motor earlier this week to produce a version of the upcoming EV in China for the Chinese market.

The sketches will be on display at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, which runs from July 12-15.
