BMW M Performance Parts Concept bound for Goodwood

Lighter, meaner M2 will tackle the hillclimb at Goodwood this weekend.

BMW will show off the range of M Performance Parts available for the M2 – and some that aren't yet available – at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, with the grey-and-gold M Performance Parts Concept.

The most noticeable changes to the base M2 come in the form of BMW M Performance carbon-fibre pieces, which help shave more than 60kg from its kerb weight.

There are carbon-fibre add ons for the side skirts, front splitter and rear diffuser, along with a carbon bonnet that's 8kg lighter than the standard unit. The radiator grille is also made of the lightweight weave, while carbon-fibre side panels cut a further 3kg from the car's kerb weight. Finally, the concept has a new boot lid and diffuser – we'll let you be the judge of how they look.

M Performance has fitted a carbon-fibre roof and forged alloy wheels, both of which save 6kg over stock. Although they're all concept parts at the moment, BMW is planning to put them all into production at some point.

The radiator grille, wheels and bonnet are likely to be available later this month, while the side panels will be added to the catalogue in November. That glossy carbon roof will be available from March 2019, although BMW hasn't confirmed which of the parts will be offered on the regular M2 and which will be reserved for the M2 Competition.

There are plenty of add-ons behind the wheel, too. Carbon-fibre bucket seats trimmed in black and gold replace the standard pews up front, while the rear bench has been turfed in favour of two bucket-style units. Not only do they look cool, they're 13kg lighter than the usual setup.

In keeping with its show-car status, BMW has gone all-out with the gold detailing. It's been used for the 12 o'clock maker on the steering wheel, the contrast stitching on the seats, the piping on the bolsters and M2 motif down back. Even the velour floor mats have been treated to a dash of gold.

Oh, and beyond the showy add-ons, the M2 Performance Parts Concept is fitted with a coil-over suspension setup offering 12 different compression and 16 different rebound damping options. The setup also drops the car by up to 20mm, and is available as a retrofit kit for current M2 owners.

The M2 Performance Parts Concept will be on show at Goodwood this weekend. Mandy Turner is on the ground covering the action for CarAdvice, so stay tuned.
