Skoda will apply RS badge to electric SUV – report

You've heard of vRS, but what about eRS? That's a possibility, according to reports from the UK.

Skoda will slap its RS performance badge on its upcoming electric crossover, according to a new report from the UK.

According to Autocarthe hotted-up electric SUV – likely to be badged 'eRS' – will touch down in 2022, just over 12 months after the regular production models are revealed. Don't expect the car to be 100 per cent performance-focused, though.

“There will be a vRS version of our future electric car,” Alain Favey, Skoda sales and marketing head, told the British publication.

“It will be more about styling and experience, and not necessarily performance."

The car was previewed by the Vision E concept at the 2017 Frankfurt motor show, with an aggressively sloped roofline and sharp-edged detailing in keeping with the design language of the current Kodiaq and Karoq.

Power comes from a pair of electric motors making for a combined power output of 225kW, while offering up to 500km of range. Given what we're expecting from the Mercedes-Benz EQC and Audi e-tron, neither of those figures seem unrealistic for production.

Beyond the electric hardware, the concept promised Level 3 autonomous systems capable of braking, accelerating and steering on busy freeways and slow-moving traffic. Skoda also talked about the ability to find and remotely park in distant spaces, having dropped you and your date off at the door of, say, a restaurant.

How much of that will transfer into the production car remains to be seen.
