Nissan GT-R50 by Italdesign revealed ahead of Goodwood debut

Nissan has released a new set of images of the limited-run GT-R50 by Italdesign this week, ahead of a public debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed later this month.

Estimated to cost around €900,000 ($1.418 million), and limited to just 50 units, the GT-R50 celebrates the 50th anniversaries of both the GT-R (2019) and Italdesign (2018).

The vehicle set to be shown at Goodwood will be a prototype, though it's unclear whether it will just be a display car or whether it will attempt the iconic hillclimb as well.

"The Goodwood Festival of Speed is the ideal setting to showcase the Nissan GT-R50 by Italdesign, which combines power and artistry to celebrate 50 years of inspiring the dreams of our customers,” said Alfonso Albaisa, senior vice president of global design for Nissan.

"Just like the prototype itself, Goodwood is a celebration of design, performance, a little indulgence and a lot of love of historic and future automotive creativity."

"It’s the perfect setting to showcase a unique vehicle that will stir the imagination of people to dream even bigger," he added.

The GT-R50 is based on the GT-R Nismo, significantly overhauled inside and out to achieve the futuristic, bespoke look you see here.

It's powered by the same 3.8-litre twin-turbo V6 as the 'standard' car, though it's been tuned by Nismo to produce an "estimated" 720PS (530kW) of power and 780Nm of torque – up 89kW and 128Nm over the GT-R Nismo.

To achieve such a significant gain in grunt, there are new GT3-spec turbochargers, larger intercoolers, along with a heavy-duty crankshaft, pistons, high-flow piston oil, oil jets, revised camshaft profiles, higher-flow fuel injectors, and (deep breath) optimised ignition, intake and exhaust systems.

Other mechanical changes include a reinforced dual-clutch six-speed rear transaxle, stronger differential and drive shafts, and a revised suspension using Bilstein DampTronic adaptive dampers. There's also six-piston front and four-piston rear Brembo brakes with red-painted calipers.
