2019 Kia Sportage pricing and specs

Facelifted SUV gains AEB and lane-keep assist as standard, new eight-speed auto for diesel engine.

Australian pricing and specifications for the updated 2019 Kia Sportage range have been announced this week, with the facelifted SUV line-up to kick off at $29,990 before on-road costs.

Despite starting $1000 more expensive than the model it replaces, the MY19 Sportage picks up added active safety gear across the range, while also offering a new eight-speed automatic on diesel models, along with an updated infotainment system – amongst other things.

The range once again begins with the entry-level Si, priced from $29,990. Standard kit includes autonomous emergency braking with forward collision warning, lane-keep assist, high-beam assist, rear-view camera with dynamic guidelines, rear parking sensors, a 7.0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, cloth trim, along with automatic headlights and wipers.

From the base level the Sportage also features dual-zone climate control with rear air vents, a six-speaker audio system, cloth seat trim, cruise control, bluetooth phone and audio streaming, along with 17-inch alloy wheels.

Next up is the Si Premium, which kicks off at $32,290 plus on-roads – though it's being advertised from $31,990 drive-away.

Additional specification includes a larger 8.0-inch infotainment display with satellite navigation, 10 years of Mapcare updates and SUNA live traffic monitoring, front parking sensors, LED daytime-running lights, digital radio, an eight-speaker JBL audio system, and 18-inch alloy wheels.

Third up the ladder is the SLi (from $36,790), which gets, tyre pressure monitoring, keyless entry with push-button start, a 10-way power-adjustable driver's seat, leather trim, LED tail-lights, and an electronic park brake.

Sitting atop the range is the GT-Line, priced from $44,790 before on-road costs. Extra inclusions over the SLi include all-wheel drive as standard (we'll get to drivetrains in a bit), blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, an eight-way powered front passenger seat, auto-levelling LED headlights with LED fog-lights, an automated park assist system, along with adaptive cruise control.

The top-shelf variant also gets the GT-Line sports pack, which includes more aggressively styled bumper inserts, side sills and grille, in addition to heated and ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, flat-bottom sports steering wheel with paddles, wireless phone charging, a powered tailgate, and 19-inch alloy wheels.

Power in the Si, Si Premium and SLi comes from a carryover 2.0-litre 'MPi' naturally-aspirated petrol engine as standard, sending drive exclusively to the front wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission.

Outputs for the base engine are rated at 114kW (@6200rpm) and 192Nm (@4000rpm), with fuel consumption rated at 7.9L/100km on the combined cycle.

The GT-Line, meanwhile, comes as standard with a larger 2.4-litre 'GDi' naturally-aspirated petrol with direct injection, mated to a six-speed auto and all-wheel drive as standard.

Power and torque figures are rated at 135kW (@6000rpm) and 237Nm (@4000rpm) respectively, with fuel consumption rated at 8.5L/100km on the combined cycle.

All grades are also available with an optional 2.0-litre 'CRDi' turbo-diesel, which comes as standard with all-wheel drive and a new eight-speed automatic for the 2019 model year (previously six-speed).

Outputs remain at 136kW (@4000rpm) and 400Nm (@1750-2750rpm), though the new transmission sees claimed fuel consumption drop to 6.4L/100km on the combined cycle – a reduction of 0.4L/100km over the outgoing model with the six-speed automatic.

Further to the equipment and technology upgrades across the wider range, Kia says the Sportage has been given an updated suspension tune for enhanced ride comfort and body control – largely due to the revised bushing mount positions and stiffer wheel bearings and bushings. At the back, Kia has also added a stiffer cross member to cut road noise and vibrations.

Across the range, five colours will be offered: Clear White (standard), Steel Grey, Sparkling Silver, Fiery Red and Mercury Blue, while the GT-Line exclusively offers the additional Snow White Pearl and Cherry Black hues. Premium paint options are priced at an additional $520.

Luggage capacity remains the same as the pre-facelift version, rated at 466L (VDA) with the second row in place, expanding to 1455L with the rear seats folded.
