Citroen C3 Aircross Rip Curl revealed, not for Oz – UPDATE

French crossover gets a surfy upgrade.

UPDATE, 9/7/2018: Citroen's local division has ruled out the C3 Rip Curl for our market. See bottom of article for details.

Citroen has revealed the C3 Aircross Rip Curl, the latest product of the French manufacturer's ongoing collaboration with the Australian surfing and sportswear brand.

Based on the European 'Feel' trim level, the C3 Aircross Rip Curl special edition gets enhancements like 17-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, the Blue Colour Pack – which adds "vibrant blue" accents to the headlights surrounds, and mirror housings – and Rip Curl branding throughout.

The vehicle pictured has the optional White Colour Pack, swapping the blue accents for white ones. Five exterior colours are compatible with the limited-edition model: Natural White, Cosmic Silver, Ink Black and Misty Grey.

Inside, the C3 Aircross Rip Curl gets "flecked" grey fabric with white top-stitching and a blue strip on the upper part of the seats – matching the blue ones on the outside. There's also model-specific floor carpets.

An array of additional equipment items have been added to the 'Feel' variant, too, including satellite navigation for the 7.0-inch touchscreen display with connected services, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, power windows all round, electric folding side mirrors, rear parking sensors, climate control air-conditioning, automatic wipers, and an electrochromic rear-view mirror.

Rounding out the specification sheet is an opening panoramic glass sunroof, the company's Grip Control system – which features various driving modes for low-traction surfaces – hill descent control, along with mud and snow tyres for the 17-inch alloys.

The Citroen C3 Aircross Rip Curl is available with five different engine and transmission variants, including two petrols and two diesels.

In its most affordable form, the C3 Aircross Rip Curl features an 82kW turbocharged petrol engine mated to a six-speed manual transmission – with prices kicking off at €22,600 ($35,716).

Citroen says it has already received nearly 90,000 European orders for the new crossover in its "less than nine months" on sale.

Australia

The C3 Aircross is due to go on sale Down Under in the fourth quarter of 2018, with pricing and specifications to be revealed closer to launch.

Citroen's local division, however, has ruled out the Rip Curl variant for our market, with Tyson Bowen, PR and corporate affairs manager for Peugeot Citroen Australia, telling CarAdvice: "There is no plan for a Rip Curl Edition locally".

"We are currently concentrating in planning for launch of the [standard C3 Aircross], with more news to follow later this quarter," he added.
