Peugeot is among the fastest-growing brands in Australia this year, recording a 24.1 per cent sales bump during the first half of 2018.
Alright, it's coming off a low base, but bear with us here. The brand has 1333 sales so far this year, up on the 1074 it managed to the same point in 2017. More than half of those have been the 3008 (below), with 691 registrations year to date, while the 5008 is sitting on 307 sales during the same period. The 308, on the other hand, is languishing on just 163 sales for the year so far, down 43.8 per cent on last year. That's almost double the 208, though.
With a proper range of competitive crossovers ranging from the itsy-bitsy 2008 to the seven-seat 5008, the brand has seen SUV sales overtake passenger cars for the first time in its history Down Under, with the former accounting for 69 per cent of registrations during the previous financial year.
During the last financial year, the Peugeot range of SUVs has seen a 208 per cent jump in sales, as part of a wider 65 per cent growth in registrations over the same period. With a new importer at the helm, the company (and related Citroen) has extended its warranty from three to five years, and reshuffled its pricing structure to be more competitive with the wider market.
"In the past twelve months Peugeot Australia has improved specification and pricing across the model range, introduced a five-year, unlimited kilometre warranty and started rebuilding our dealer and service networks," said Peugeot's local managing director, Anouk Poelmann.
While there is still much to do, our intention to rebuild Peugeot and its relationship with customers is clear."
Although it has a strong SUV line-up, there's more product coming to bolster the Peugeot range next year. Hopefully.
The new 508 and 508 Touring (nee SW) have both been revealed overseas, with the local Peugeot importer confirming the sedan's Aussie launch will follow its late-2018 European debut. The wagon is also on the list, although it's not confirmed yet. Cross your fingers.
