Renault Megane RS maxed out on the autobahn – video

How hard can the newest Megane RS pull?

The Renault Megane RS280 has only just been priced for Australia, but the RS range is already doing the rounds on European roads. That means any hotshot with a few cameras and access to an autobahn can test out the claimed top speed.

That's exactly what AutoTopNL has done, taking advantage of a quiet stretch of derestricted motorway to put the new French hot hatch through its paces.

With a choice of manual or dual-clutch automatic transmission, and a handy 205kW and 390Nm from its 1.8-litre turbocharged four, the RS is gunning for the Honda Civic Type R and Hyundai i30 N.

In Australia, pricing will kick off with the RS280 manual at $44,990 before on-road costs, or $47,490 for the RS280 with a dual-clutch transmission.

Pricing for the hotter Trophy model, which gets 224kW from the same 1.8-litre engine, hasn't been revealed yet.
