2019 Mercedes-Benz B-Class spied
New-generation MPV drops some camouflage in latest images.
The next-generation Mercedes-Benz B-Class has been spied in Germany this week, wearing a thinner disguise for a closer look at the new MPV's proportions.
Finer design details are obviously concealed by the swirly wrap, but we can see that the shape of the B-Class will be an evolution of the current model, while the key design cues will draw upon the new A-Class – with which it is closely related.
Up front we can see the B-Class appears lower and wider than the current model, while the tall roofline and large glasshouse have carried over somewhat.
Through the camouflage we can see there will be more bulbous tail-lights at the rear, drawing inspiration from the latest A-Class.
Interior images haven't been snapped, though we're expecting the B-Class to feature the company's new MBUX dual-screen infotainment system, complete with available augmented-reality satellite navigation services and an intelligent voice-activated personal assistant.
Considering its close ties with the A-Class, the new B-Class should get the company's latest range of small-capacity turbocharged three- and four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines, with the availability of a 48V mild-hybrid 'EQ Boost' system as well. We reckon a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version could also become available, too.
The B-Class could also offer a seven-seat option – though this could be limited to the Chinese market. In March the company's global sales boss, Britta Seeger, confirmed a three-row compact model is in the works, though wouldn't disclose what form it would take.
It's one of two options, or perhaps both – either there will be a seven-seat B-Class, or a three-row version of the upcoming GLB crossover.
"Will it be a minivan or an SUV? You will have to wait and see," Seeger said to Automotive News Europe earlier this year.
The new B-Class will likely be revealed sometime later this year or early next – potentially at the Paris motor show in October or in Geneva next March.
