Honda Civic Type R sets new Silverstone GP record – Video

'Into corners like Copse and Stowe at the end of the Hangar straight, you can carry big entry speed with supreme confidence.'

Honda has continued its record run in the Civic Type R, beating its own lap record around the UK's Silverstone GP Circuit.

The new Type R lapped the famous British circuit in just 2:31.32. That's well off the 1:26.60 set by Lewis Hamilton in Formula 1 qualifying last year, but we're willing to forgive the road-going hot hatch for that.

"Where I found the real advantage of the Type R was really in the high-speed corners – the stability which is a combination of the aero and the new advanced suspension system," said Matt Neal, touring car racer and pilot of choice for this record run.

"Into corners like Copse and Stowe at the end of the Hangar straight, you can carry big entry speed with supreme confidence.”

The UK record run follows on from new markers for front-wheel drive cars around Magny Cours, Spa Francorchamps and the Nurburgring Nordschleife.
