2019 Renault Megane RS pricing and specs

$44,990 starting price for the hottest Renault on offer.

Renault Australia has announced pricing and specifications for the incoming Megane RS, ahead of its September arrival Down Under.

Pricing will kick off with the RS280 manual at $44,990 before on-road costs, jumping to $47,490 for the RS280 dual-clutch. In standard 'RS280' trim, you'll get a 1.8-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol sending 205kW and 390Nm to the front wheels, along with four-wheel steering and and a 'standard' suspension setup.

Pricing for the hotter Trophy model, which gets 224kW from the same 1.8-litre engine, hasn't been revealed. Expect more details as the range-topping car's launch nears.

In manual guise, the car uses a claimed 7.1L/100km on the combined cycle, while the dual-clutch uses a reported 6.7L/100km. More importantly, you'll hit 100km/h in just 5.8 seconds.

Ticking the $1490 Cup Pack box (manual only) adds Brembo brakes with red calipers, 19-inch black alloy wheels, a Torsen mechanical limited-slip differential and a revised suspension setup with tweaked springs, dampers and bump stops.

Renault initially wasn't going to offer the pack Down Under, instead announcing the base RS280 and range-topping Trophy, but reneged after a strong public backlash.

Keen readers (or despondent Volkswagen enthusiasts) will note, given the Golf GTI won't be offered with a manual from October onwards, the Megane RS will be the only hot-hatch in its class offering a choice of manual or automatic.

All cars, regardless of Cup or standard, will get niceties like satellite navigation, dual-zone climate control, cruise control, keyless entry, hands-free park assist, blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control and autonomous emergency braking.

The interior will also offer smartphone mirroring on its vertically-oriented 8.7-inch R-Link touchscreen, a 7.0-inch driver display and auto windows all around.

There are a few options: metallic paint is $600 ($800 for Liquid Yellow/Tonic Orange),a panoramic sunroof ($1990), a Bose sound system ($500) and leather/Alcantara upholstery ($1190).

Along with the hero colours, the car will be offered in solid white, or black, grey, red and white metallic paint.

The new Megane RS will arrive in Australia this September.
