Lexus Hybrid Bicycle latest L-finesse concept model

Lexus has used its wealth of hybrid knowledge to create its latest L-finesse design concept, the Lexus Hybrid Bicycle.

Already an established player in the premium car market, Lexus has applied the same thinking, but on a smaller scale, to create the two-wheeled machine, a design concept Lexus says captures the fundamental engineering and design values of the brand.

With an engaging yet elegant frame, the Lexus Hybrid Bicycle utilises hybrid power, an electric eight-speed transmission and lightweight carbon fibre construction.

The bike, strictly a concept, is one of two produced, and will be shown at a UK charity ride this coming weekend.

The Lexus Hybrid Bicycle uses pedal power and an electrically-assisted front wheel for motivation. The electric motor offering 240-watts of power via a 25.9-volt lithium-ion battery. Like many hybrid cars, the bicycle also offers two power modes - Eco or Power.

Again, similar to four-wheeled hybrid vehicles, the Lexus Hybrid Bicycle also offers an energy regeneration function that assists in recharging the battery by capturing kinetic energy under braking.

The Lexus Hybrid Bicycle has all-wheel drive, by means of a belt system, and is equipped with an electronic eight-speed internal gear system by Shimano. The gear system references the sophisticated eight-speed shift-by-wire automatic transmission of Lexus’s LS 600h limousine. To save weight, the concept's frame is manufactured entirely from carbon fibre.

Currently, there are no plans to mass produce the Lexus Hybrid Bicycle.
