Hold on tight folks, this super sedan is hitting hyper speed!

The idea of maxing out your new super sedan on the public road isn't really plausible in Australia, but it's an option for German owners with an autobahn in their backyard.

We've featured a Porsche 718 Cayman GTS touching 294km/h on the German highway before, but the F90 BMW M5 in this video puts that to shame, topping 310km/h during a flat-out run on a derestricted section of road.

Ignore the click-bait headline on the video – this isn't a police chase video, and the driver drops back to 120km/h when the speed limit kicks in. It's just a very fast car going, well, very fast on the public road.

Power in the M5 comes from a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 making 441kW and 750Nm, put to all four wheels (shock horror!) through a sophisticated M xDrive all-wheel drive system. The 100km/h sprint is dispatched in a claimed 3.4 seconds, while 200km/h flies by in 11.1 seconds.
