Around the Tracks: Pikes Peak special edition

Lots of fast, drifty action in Colorado.

When we're not creating it ourselves, the CarAdvice team spends a lot of time finding and consuming motoring content from all over the world.

Here's a handful of the articles, videos and social media posts that most caught our eye last week. Some of them are brand-new, others have been online for a while.

Enjoy them – just not too much, okay?

Climb Dance - TestDriven, YouTube

When it comes to Pikes Peak, one video stands out above the rest. The entire hillclimb is paved now, but it was all gravel in 1988, when Jean Louis Mourey captured Ari Vatanen hustling his Peugeot 405 T16 up the hill.

The finished film, dubbed Climb Dance, was an award-winner in its time.

Sébastien Loeb's Record Setting Pikes Peak Run, Full POV - Red Bull, YouTube

Almost three decades after Vatanen's superhuman effort in Climb Dance, Sebastien Loeb and Peugeot teamed up to set a new record at Pikes Peak. The wild 206 T16 you see here was purpose-built to smash the hillclimb, with 650kW in a body weighing just 875kg and a clever four-wheel drive system.

Ken Block’s Climbkhana: Pikes Peak Featuring the Hoonicorn V2

Given the on-board of Romain Dumas' record run isn't online yet, we've substituted it for a driftier, hoonier alternative. Ken Block, a Mustang and a deserted hillclimb makes for a seriously smoky video.
