Nissan GT-R First Details

Beginning pre-launch activities for the successor to the Skyline GT-R, Nissan has launched a new website, which among other things, has confirmed the final name of the car to be Nissan GT-R.

With sales due to start in Japan in December, Nissan's new website - www.gtrnissan.com - is available with an Australian specific regional option, potentially marking the GT-R's return to Australian soil.

Customers in Japan were today also given access to basic specifications, colours and practical information on placing pre-orders. Prices in Japan for the Nissan GT-R will start from around 7.8 million yen (AU$77,800).

Although, import taxes and other government policies will make sure the GT-R comes much closer to 100g or more when/if it lands in Australia.

Spy-shots of the Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) GT-R brochure have hit the Net, confirming the three model grades as Base, Black and Premium. The GT-R's powerplant has also been confirmed as a VR38 (3.8-litre) unit, obviously with two turbos bolted on for good measure.

The engine performance will remain constant throughout the model variants. Perhaps most concerning to the purists is that there is no manual option in favour of a paddle-shift gearbox which is rumoured to be a 7-speed.

Recently, many sources have reported that the new GT-R has been able to outgun its arch nemesis, the Porsche 911 around the German's home track of Nurburgring.

The GTR Owner's Club has managed to siphon some of the key details from the brochure:

There are 6 exterior colors:

  • Black
  • Red

  • Dark Metal Grey (Potentially limited production of 40 cars a month with this color)

Nissan have also announced there will be 160 high performance centres throughout Japan specialised in servicing the GT-R with GT-R specific mechanics.

At the time of writing, there is exactly 28 days left before the new GT-R is unveiled in Tokyo.
