Ever wondered what makes a Porsche 911 GT3 RS so fast around a race track? Well, now you have some of the answers.
On April 16 the GT3 RS lapped the famed Nurburgring Nordschleife in a blistering 6 minutes 56.4 seconds – nine seconds slower than the twin-turbo 911 GT2 RS, but 0.5 seconds quicker than the 918 hybrid hypercar. You can watch a video of that lap above.
In a new clip published this week, Porsche's racing team spills some of the secrets that make the 911 GT3 RS such a track weapon.
The video features Jan Frank, GT driving dynamics engineer, Lars Kern, Porsche test and development driver, Holger Bartels, driving dynamics and performance team leader, and Marian Fiebig, one of Porsche's mechanics.
Revealed in February, the 911 GT3 RS is powered by a 4.0-litre naturally-aspirated flat six, making 383kW of power and 470Nm of torque – it's the most powerful naturally-aspirated 911 ever built.
Drive is sent to the rear wheels via a seven-speed PDK dual-clutch automatic, helping the track special to dash from 0-100km/h in a claimed 3.2 seconds. Top speed is rated at 312km/h.
It'll arrive in Australia in the fourth quarter of this year, priced from $416,500 before on-road costs.
