2019 DS 3 Crossback spied

New compact SUV to offer EV option

A camouflaged prototype believed to be the upcoming DS 3 Crossback has been spied again, this time on the tarmac.

Said to be based on the PSA Group's new Common Modular Platform (CMP) – which will soon underpin a range of models including the next-generation Peugeot 208 and Opel Corsa – the DS 3 Crossback will rival the likes of the Audi Q2 and Mercedes-Benz GLA when it hits the market sometime in 2019.

Not much of the vehicle's design can be seen through the psychedelic black-and-white wrap, though we're expecting the DS 3 Crossback will sport a 'mini-me' design inspired by the larger DS 7 Crossback revealed at the 2017 Geneva motor show.

The DS 3 Crossback is expected to come with an all-electric variant, based the new e-CMP architecture designed for the PSA Group's upcoming electric vehicles.

According to documents obtained by overseas outlets, the EV will feature a 50kWh battery pack allowing for up to 450km of range.

The next-gen Opel Corsa – scheduled to be revealed in 2019 – has also been locked in for an EV variant based on the e-CMP platform, and the next Peugeot 208 is also expected to get an EV spinoff.

Combustion-powered versions of the DS 3 Crossback will likely draw power from a range of three- and four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines, from 1.2-litres to 2.0-litres in capacity.
