Aston Martin Vantage GT3, GT4 revealed

All-new racers to debut at Le Mans this weekend

Aston Martin Racing (AMR) has revealed its new Vantage GT3 and Vantage GT4 race cars ahead of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Based on the new-generation Vantage sports car, the GT3 and GT4 cars aim to build on the successful record of their predecessors, with the GT3 to make its racing debut at the Michelin Aston Martin Racing Le Mans Festival this weekend.

AMR says both the Vantage GT3 and GT4 are derived from the Vantage GTE, and powered by the same 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 as the road car – though both vehicles have had their powertrains optimised for racing, as you'd expect.

First up is the Vantage GT3, which develops 535bhp (399kW) and 700Nm of torque, and claims a dry weight of 1245 kilograms.

Highlights include a lightweight aluminium chassis, steel roll-cage, a six-speed sequential gearbox from Xtrac, an Alcon motorsport multi-plate clutch, and a motorsport ABS braking system supplied by Bosch.

The GT3 "remains in development" until it's homologated for competition use on March 1, 2019, and takes over the outgoing V12 Vantage GT3 – Aston Martin's most successful customer racing car.

Further details of the Vantage GT4 are few and far between, though Aston Martin has confirmed it too will be homologated from March 1, 2019, and is therefore in development until then. It will only be on display at this weekend's racing festival.

"Driveability and a wide operating window remain key targets for us as we develop the new Vantage GT3 and GT4 racing cars," said John Gaw, managing director for AMR.

"The fact that our customers can still purchase the V12 Vantage GT3 and be competitive seven years after it was introduced is a fantastic legacy to build on, and the new cars will take this concept on in leaps and bounds."

"The current GT3 is very popular with customers, and there is a desire to spread our marketplace to more championships and at a high level, and from the expressions of interest that we have seen so far I believe we are on track to do that," he added.
