2019 Audi A4 spied again

Facelifted sedan spotted in Europe

The Audi A4 facelift has been spied again, this time in 'A4 L' sedan guise on the roads of Europe.

While it was spied in its homeland, the A4 L is actually a Chinese-market car – the Chinese characters on the boot lid are a dead giveaway. Despite this particular vehicle being based on a Chinese version, the updated face is the same as the Euro-spec wagon spied last month.

Compared to the model currently on sale, the updated A4 gets a new bumper treatment – hence the camouflage wrap being restricted to that area – featuring redesigned air intakes and a lightly-revised grille.

The headlights are also likely to change, though this prototype doesn't appear to have new units, and the rear features a new design for the exhaust tips. It's believed the tail-light graphics should get a minor redesign, too.

According to our sources, there are rumours that the current A4 has had been a slow seller, forcing Audi to fast track the release of the updated version to keep it fresh against the likes of the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class – though both of its main rivals are starting to age too.

Under the skin, the A4 should get revised engines for lower emissions, while other changes should include the company's latest set of driver assistance and infotainment systems.
