2019 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 revealed, still not for Oz

Track-focused Pony now with added edge

The updated Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 has been detailed this week, bringing numerous enhancements for better driver engagement and track performance.

For 2019, the Blue Oval has made changes to the GT350's aerodynamics package – including a new spoiler with available gurney flap – which are claimed to reduce drag, while the new custom Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres offer better grip.

There's also new tuning for the chassis and antilock brakes for "dramatically greater grip", while the interior scores a new machined aluminium dashboard applique, 'Miko' suede door inserts, the availability of Miko suede seat upholstery, along with a new optional 12-speaker B&O sound system by Harman.

Also new for 2019 is the standard fitment of Ford's Sync 3 infotainment system, which features SiriusXM radio and FordPass Connect services, and dual-zone climate control is also now standard.

Buyers can now opt for Velocity Blue exterior paint for the first time, and the 19-inch alloy wheels are in a new design, too.

However, it appears the 2019 GT350 goes without the design changes seen in the revised Mustang range, meaning the headlights and tail-lights are carried over from the outgoing model.

The powertrain is also unchanged for 2019, meaning the GT350 continues with the 392kW/582Nm 5.2-litre naturally-aspirated V8, mated exclusively to a Tremec six-speed manual transmission.

Just in case you didn't know already, the Shelby GT350 runs the most powerful naturally-aspirated production engine Ford has ever built.

"The new Shelby GT350 is our ultimate track Mustang. We’ve stuck to Carroll Shelby’s original formula for winning championships and made our Shelby GT350 even better with the latest in race-proven aerodynamics, tire and chassis technology," said Hermann Salenbauch, global director for Ford Performance vehicle programs.

"Somewhere, Carroll is smiling," he added.

The updated 2019 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 will be available "starting in early 2019" for the North American market, with pricing to be confirmed closer to launch.
