Poll: Nissan Terra takes down Isuzu MU-X

Is BMW onto a winner with the new X5?

The 2018 Nissan Terra isn't confirmed for the Australian market, but it's managed to take down the sales-leading Isuzu MU-X in our latest online poll.

A not-insignificant 58 per cent of respondents preferred the seven-seat Nissan over the MU-X, which is currently topping its class for sales.

Nissan head office hasn't actually decided whether to send the Terra to Australia yet. In south-east Asia, it's powered by a 2.5-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine making 140kW and 450Nm of torque, mated to a seven-speed automatic transmission.

That engine isn't fit for sale in Australia – it won't meet our emissions standards – but the 2.3-litre turbo-diesel from the Navara will fit on the same frame. The only other sticking point? Autonomous emergency braking, a requirement for a five-star ANCAP rating.

We'd suggest it's a matter of when, not if the car arrives.

THIS WEEK'S POLL

There's a new BMW X5. Dubbed G05, it's bigger and more luxurious than the car it replaces, with more technology than ever before. It's also here early, like a premature child. Rather than waiting the requisite eight years, BMW has launched this new car after just four. Is it a winner in your eyes?
